List 3 words that describe design: Inspiring, Meaningful, Essential.
Who is your favorite designer? I can't claim a favorite designer; however I have a handful of mentors (Interior Designers, Architects and Artists that I look up to, who have influenced my life as a person and a designer).
What are you most proud of? I have a few, but some of my top favorites include The Conference Board - New York, Duke Energy Headquarters and NASCAR Digital Media located in Charlotte. Each story was different, but they were all examples of what can be achieved when you assemble a great hardworking team with a visionary client.
What are you currently reading? I tend to read mostly articles, blogs, and white papers dealing with workplace design. It has to be direct and to the point to keep my attention, so books rarely apply.
Why Interior Design? I initially went into art school with the goal of becoming a computer animator. After my first year, my focus shifted towards designing the built environment. I felt that Interior Design offered the best opportunity to design physical spaces that positively impact lives and the environment.
What is your design style? Organized, Clean, Precise, and Bold.
What is your favorite quote or motto? "Speak softly and carry a big stick" Theodore Roosevelt
3 things you cannot live without: My girls (Becky and Reagan), my boat, & a sense of accomplishment.
If you were not a designer, what would you be doing? I would be a Navy man, of course.
Why IIDA? It's a great opportunity to network with my fellow designers while being an advocate for my profession.
