COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON ADDLESTONE LIBRARY

-
The Marlene & Nathan Addlestone Library is the region’s top research library. This modern, three-story facility has a holding capacity of one million volumes, seats 1,400 people and has 300 computers - including dozens of laptops that can be checked out and linked up to the building’s ubiquitous wireless network. The library is also the prime study spot on campus. A huge draw is Rivers Green, a large inviting lawn and patio area behind the library that’s equipped with tables, chairs and high-speed WiFi. Another perk is Starbucks, Addlestone’s tasty refueling station for marathon study sessions. This College of Charleston Addlestone Library Renovation project consisted of three parts − renovation of select areas of the library to improve space efficiency and design for evolving programmatic needs; relocation of the Rivers Communication Museum and collection to the Addlestone Library requiring reconfiguration of existing space and a new exhibit design to highlight technological innovations in communications leading up to, and during, the 20th century; and renovations to the building envelope.
