AIA Elections and Panel Discussion

Mez Joseph

Today was the AIA annual business meeting.  Several Liollio folks were elected for AIA Charleston 2015 Board: Jennifer Charzewski will serve as the President, Michael Edwards as the President-Elect, and Elissa Bostain will serve on the Board of Directors.  Congratulations to all!

Following the elections, there was a great discussion regarding the history of AIA Charleston, notable issues past and present, and an insightful discussion about where AIA Charleston is, can, and should be headed.  Dinos Liollio was a panelist along with a few other experienced local business professionals.

SKETCHING IN THE STUDIO

Recently, Dustin was caught "sketching" in the studio with real pencil and paper - a ritual celebrated with great fanfare. What was this strange ritual, proclaimed one young intern.

AIA + CACC Lecture Series

Last night there was a great turn out at the AIA + CACC Lecture Series.  We had a great presentation by Trey Trahan, FAIA, of Trahan Architect's body of work.  For more information on his firm and work, click here!

Several young designers, including Dan and Elissa, went out to dinner to continue the design dialogue after the lecture.

Ringo Starr & his All-Star Band!

Mez Joseph

A few of us spent a great evening last night with Ringo Starr & his All-Star Band. What a band... Steve Lukather (Toto), Richard Page (Mr. Mister), Gregg Rolie (Santana & Journey), to name a few. It was a great concert. They had everyone singing along on such classics as Yellow Submarine, Boys & many more. The crowd favorite by far was With A Little Help From My Friends. Ringo has not lost his magic!

List 3 words that describe design:  Inspiring, Meaningful, Essential.
Who is your favorite designer? I can't claim a favorite designer; however I have a handful of mentors (Interior Designers, Architects and Artists that I look up to, who have influenced my life as a person and a designer).
What are you most proud of? I
have a few, but some of my top favorites include The Conference Board - New York, Duke Energy Headquarters and NASCAR Digital Media located in Charlotte. Each story was different, but they were all examples of what can be achieved when you assemble a great hardworking team with a visionary client.
What are you currently reading?
tend to read mostly articles, blogs, and white papers dealing with workplace design. It has to be direct and to the point to keep my attention, so books rarely apply.
Why Interior Design? I i
nitially went into art school with the goal of becoming a computer animator. After my first year, my focus shifted towards designing the built environment. I felt that Interior Design offered the best opportunity to design physical spaces that positively impact lives and the environment.
What is your design style? O
rganized, Clean, Precise, and Bold.
What is your favorite quote or motto?  "Speak softly and carry a big stick" Theodore Roosevelt
3 things you cannot live without:  My girls (Becky and Reagan), my boat, & a sense of accomplishment.
If you were not a designer, what would you be doing?  I would be a Navy man, of course.
Why IIDA?  It's a great opportunity to network with my fellow designers while being an advocate for my profession.
