Last night Rick and Elissa attended a great presentation by Michael Maher, CEO of the Horizon Project Foundation, at the CSI meeting. We are excited about the future of the west side of Charleston! Charleston Progressive Academy was formally dedicated on Friday May 16th 2014, with local leaders, teachers & students participating in the festivities. The media center was dedicated and named in memory and honor of Dr. Maria Goodloe-Johnson, former superintendent of Charleston County School District. The building program incorporated the preservation of the existing mid-century school with thoughtful additions conveying the significance of its architectural & social merits. Charleston Progressive Academy s mission is to engage students in active learning experiences that will produce educationally sound leaders.
We celebrated Dustin's birthday today, and Michael brought delicious breakfast treats and coffee.

We kicked off the celebration of David and Sibel's Turkish wedding at our happy hour at Shem Creek last night! David and Sibel will be traveling to Turkey in a few weeks for their traditional Turkish wedding.
Liollio Architecture wins an AIA Unbuilt Citation Award for LIGHTscapes Charleston project from the American Institute of Architects South Carolina Chapter. The project was an entry to the Building International Playscapes competition. This Urban Intervention introduces new ways for Charlestonians to interact with an underutilized park in downtown Charleston. This project has also, previously won an Honor Award Unbuilt Project in the 2013 AIA Charleston Awards. Project Team: David Dewees & Dan Corte
Liollio Architecture wins an AIA Citation Award for the Yeamans Hall Club Service Center in Hanahan, South Carolina project from the 2014 American Institute of Architects South Carolina Chapter Design Awards. The building’s massing is broken so to respond to context, allow more flexibility for siting amongst the oaks and to better service vehicular access. The volumes are simply stated with an exterior “ribbing” that relates to its early 20th century neighbors. Project Team: Dinos Liollio, Jay White & Mary Mac McFadden
Michael Edwards and Jennifer Sanders participated in the Earth Day event at the VA today, along with other businesses and organizations including FWD (Food Waste Disposal), SCE&G, Scana, Enterprise, S&ME, CARTA, Cactus Smart Sink, Community Pride, the SC Forestry Commission, and others. This is an event that we participate in every year, and it seems to continue to grow. It’s an opportunity to share our work with veterans and their families, doctors and nurses, and other VA staff.
Dan and Elissa had a great Friday evening at the Charleston Rifle Club bowling with some fellow AIA Emerging Professionals. This was a kick off event for the AIA Kickball Team!

Several people from the office attended the Architect 2 Architect event hosted by the Clemson Architecture Center. Charleston last night. Each firm (Kevan Hoertdoerfer Architects, E.E Fava Architects, and Thompson Young Design) presented a project that they are currently working on. The projects inspired a great dialogue about historic preservation in Charleston!
We are proud to announce that Three Sisters Spring master plan has won a Merit Award in the Planning and Analysis category given by the American Society of Landscape Architects at the Tri-State Conference (included NC, SC, & GA) Liollio Architecture worked with Stantec and US Fish & Wildlife to create the award winning master plan of the 56 acres surrounding Three Sisters Springs for use by the Crystal River NWR as a visitor center and educational center for the site, the springs, manatees and the entire region.
